What are veneers?
Veneers are one method of perfecting ones smile. A veneer is made of porcelain, and typically covers the front, sides and biting surface of a tooth. A veneer can be utilitzed to change a tooths size, shape, and color, yet still look and feel like your natural teeth. Sometimes referred to as "instant orthodontia" veneers can be used to straighten your teeth in only two appointments that last only a few hours each, not months or years like braces.

Can your office treat my migraines or neck pain?
With neuromuscular dentistry, we can treat migraines and many other chronic pains.  By relaxing the muscles and making them “happy” we can determine the proper jaw position and maintain that position.  In doing so we will reduce the stress levels of the muscles, returning them to a more stable position.  When this occurs migraines will greatly reduce, if not cease entirely.

Why do you use porcelain restorations?
Not only are porcelain restorations very strong, they are also a more aesthetic restoration. In the past, porcelain has been fused to metal, which allows for greying around the gumline. A porcelain restoration will look more like your natural tooth, giving you a beautiful smile.

Which do you use, a crown or veneer?
The differences between a crown and a veneer are very minimal.  Both are bonded porcelain restorations.  The greatest difference is the amount of tooth structure that may need to be reduced to allow the restoration to fit properly.  Also, a veneer typically only covers the front, sides, and biting surface of a tooth.  A crown, or cap, in many cases can cover as much as three-quarters of the tooth, if not the entire tooth.

What is neuromuscular dentistry?
Neuromuscular dentistry deals with the relationship between the teeth, muscles, and jaw joint. When the muscles are not functioning in their most optimal position, one can experience a host of different signs and symptoms ranging from TMJ and migraines to worn and broken down teeth. With neuromuscular dentistry, we focus on relaxing the muscles and allowing them to function in their optimal position. We then maintain this position with a bite appliance, allowing the muscles to retrain themselves and give the jaw joint time to heal.

What makes you different from other cosmetic dentists?
The Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies sets us apart from nearly all other dental offices.  Dr. Swoverland and his staff have received extensive training from this world renowned organization.  Here, we have acquired the techniques to properly restore a smile to a healthy position.  Dr. Swoverland is one of only 450 world wide graduates from this prestigious institution, and can complete a full mouth reconstruction in as little as two visits.  In addition to our extensive education, we also offer state of the art technology that allows us to provide the best care possible to our guests.  While there are many dentists to choose from, not all of them practice cosmetic dentistry.  Shouldn’t all dentistry be cosmetic?

I do not want to go through having braces.  Can you straighten my teeth anyway?
Many individuals do not want to go through the lengthy process of orthodontia.  When this is the case, we may look to porcelain veneers.  By using veneers, we can instantly straighten teeth, eliminate any chips, spaces, or gaps, and improve their color.  The treatment can be completed in two appointments that last only a few hours, not months or years.

I am unhappy with the color of my teeth.  What bleaching method do you recommend?
There are many different options when it comes to bleaching your teeth, some of which can be very costly.  Our preferred method consists of at home bleaching with custom trays made in our laboratory.  With this method, you are able to bleach when it is convenient.  Varying strengths of solution are available with this method that allow you to bleach anywhere from one hour to all night.

How quick can I get my new smile?
Depending upon your situation, we can complete a white tooth colored restoration in as little as one hour, or a full mouth reconstruction in two appointments. The staff will assure that we accomodate your schedule so that you can receive your new smile as soon as possible.

Why do you only use white tooth colored material for your fillings instead of silver?
At one time silver mercury was a common material used for fillings.  We now know that this material can actually cause further damage to a tooth’s structure.  Since the material is made of metal, it expands and contracts.  The outward forces from the expansion of the metal presses against the remaining healthy portions of your tooth, leading to fractures.  Likewise, when the metal contracts, the margin between the mercury metal opens up, allowing bacteria to harbor under the filling.  When this takes place, we can see recurrent decay under and around silver fillings.  Today we use tooth colored restorations (resin).  These restorations look and feel just like your natural tooth.  The material does not expand and contract like metal fillings, limiting the chances for decay to redevelop.  It is also a healthier solution, as it contains no mercury.

What kinds of plans are available to help me fund my new smile?
We have several options when it comes to funding for treatments.  Shorter term payment options can be made with 0% interest.  We also offer longer term payment options with varying amounts of interest.  Whatever your financial needs may be, our courteous staff will assist you in determining the right plan to meet your needs.

Is cosmetic dentistry covered by my insurance?
Insurance companies vary, and so do their benefits from one employer to the next.  Your insurance coverage is based upon the contract between your employer and your insurance company.  In most situations, cosmetic dentistry is not a benefit that is covered by insurance.  While they may cover a portion of a tooth that requires treatment, they will most likely not cover procedures to give one a beautiful smile.
